 Portraits: People In Rome

From April 24 to 28, 2006 may father "Greyhound" Karl, my brother Markus and my longtime-travel-companion Heimo Müller went with me to the "Eternal City" of Rome.
Here I show a selection of the pictures I made there.
Resuming I can say one thing: 3 days are too short for an enourmus city like Rome.

From Termini-Station to Pza. di Spagna
and further to Pza. del Popolo

As usual we did most of our sight-seeing walking. This time our first way lead us to the nearby hotel "Domus Mea"; which is a tipp for all travellers who don't need too much comfort and don't want to spend too much money on the accomodation.
Later we walked to the famous Spanish Stairway and the also very crowded Piazza del Popolo.

From the Pza. del Popolo to the Angel's Castle

After the first pizza close to the Pza. del Popolo we crossed the Tiber River and walked across a little flea market. We finally found ourselves at the famous Angel's Castle.

Around Piazza Navona

Piazza Navona already impressed me very strong at my first visit at Rome. Although there are loads of tourists this square has so much of this special Italian spirit like nearly no other has.

Campo de' Firoi and the church of Sta. Barbara

Near Piazza Navona we find Campo de' Fiori. This is a typical Italian square on which there is kept a vegetable-market in the morning and a flower-market in the afternoon. The Italian singer Antonello Venditti even dedicated a song to this remarkable square.
Close to this place there is a small church which is sacred to the holy Barbara. Visiting this quiet place really brought me down after all the action on the touristic places of Rome.

Visiting The Vatican-State

Our way lead us into the Vatican-State twice. The first visit was on Wednesday. We didn't know that this is the day of the general audience of the pope. Finally we took part at it for a while and decided to come again the next day.
At our second visit we climbed up the stairs to the cupola of St. Peter's dome, visited the graves of the formar popes and watched the inside of the cathedral.
Due to the high number of people waiting we had to save a visit of the museums of the Vatican up to our next trip to Rome. Be sure, this will happen!

Rome - City Of Little General Stores

In the old town of Rome you steadily pass small shops where you can nearly buy everything. The shop-owners understand to present the goods in a way that you can't pass without taking a particular look on them.

Forum Romanum & Foro Italico

In this chapter I'd like to put the Forum Romanum - heart of the old Rome - and the Foro Italico, this is the area around the new-time Olympic Stadion,  together because here history is alive too. There you can see how the symbols of the "Duce" Benito Mussolini and the Italian fascism are presented. The picturing and presentation is without any political valuing and I want to admit that I distance myself from such a political direction!

The Church Of S. Ambrogio e S. Carlo a Corsa
& The Trevi-Fountain

On the Corso - one of the main streets crossing the centre of Rome - we find the church of the holy Ambrogio and Carlo, which is hardly mentioned in the travel-guides. Especially when it is very warm or a little too busy on Rome's streets this is a place of peace, at cool temperatures and an impressing background.
There is nothing more to say about the Trevi-Fountain. The pictures speak for themselves.

Spaziergang durch Rom - Bilder ohne Kategorie
