Jungfernstieg to Rödingsmarkt
|
From April 14 to 18 we (Heimo Müller, Karl Pabi, Graukopf Karl and Onkel Tom) travelled in a plane of "Air Berlin" to Hamburg
the so-called "Venice Of The North".
Our residence was an appartment from Fair-Wohnen.
This is a holiday-appartment-agency that I can recommend to all Hamburg-Visitors.
I also recommend buying the Hamburg-Card.
With this card you can use the public transport-system for free and you get discount at the entry-fee for a lot of sights.
Even though we had not the best weather, the journey was a big success. A lot of the experiences we made can not be kept in pictures.
One thing I can say for sure: This was not my last trip to this beautiful city.
From "Berliner Tor" via Jungfernstieg to Rödingsmarkt
As usual we walked through the town for the first discovery. The walk lead us to the near traffic-junction "Berliner Tor" and later
to the proper central station. Then we walked through a pedestrian-zone to the city-hall and then from the Jungfernstieg along the
channels to the Rödingsmarkt, where we had our first break.
The market "Isermarkt"
You can nearly call it a tradition that we walk through a market-place during our city-trips.
That way you can watch the inhabitants of the town in their everyday-life and also get in contact to them.
The Hanseats are - for me that was a surprise - very accostable and communicative.
The "Isermarkt" runs under the bridges of the metro-line U3 between the stations "Hoheluft" and "Eppendorfer Baum".

At the harbour
Hamburg Port - Gate To The World
We took a ride through the harbour taking a line-boat that belongs to the public transport-system. So we got an impression
of the size of this huge emporium. Unluckily we couldn't make a ride through the channels of the so-called "Speicherstadt"
because of the weather. But after visiting the "Miniaturwunderland" we took place in the Speicherstadt-Coffe-Roastery,
where you can try many coffee-specialities.
Around St. Michael's Church.
Faszinierender waren da schon die schönen Backsteinfassaden in der Umgebung, die uns so manches Foto machen ließen.

St. Pauli
No visitor of Hamburg wants to pass a walk through the sinful quarter of the city. St. Pauli, because of its a little higher altitude
also called the mountain of Hamburg. "At the Reeperbahn" as the famous actor and singer Hans Albers sang. Somehow you
seem to feel that the "Blond Hans" is everywhere present.
The pub- and club-scene of this quarter is just as manifold as the people are. You find everything there: cheap pubs, rip-off,
reputable erotics and of course the naked business with naked bodies.
But let me say one thing: You haven't been to Hamburg when you haven't been to St. Pauli!
The miniature-wonderland
In the "Speicherstadt" placed on two floors and still under construction:
the biggest model-train-exhibit in HO-scale (1:87). Here grown-up men feel like little boys, running around with shiny eyes
and show their commitments which affectionate details they found.
On a lot of points you can start effects like a pop-concert, a construction-area or an explosion in a mine, by yourself just by pushing a button.
The most fascinating thing for me was the area where the city of Hamburg can be discovered as a toy-land. You find St. Michael's church,
the port, the HSH-Nordbank-Stadium and even sinful Herbertstraße with the easy chicks in the windows and sailors spending their money on
the girls.
Here again I can say that I will come bak.
