Rhodes & Karpathos
A Journey To Greece
From Sept. 28 to Oct. 12, 2000
Sept. 28 to Oct. 2, and Oct. 12, 2000:
Once Again On Rhodes
Rhodes was again the starting point of my journey. Although it was very "fertile" for photographing, I don't think that I return to Rhodes so soon.

Oct. 1, 2000: Symi A Place Worth Staying
Symi lies north of Rhodes (2 hrs by boat), close to the coast of Turkey. The island was rich in 19th cent. because people built fast boats for the Sultan of the Osmanic Empire and treading spices. The trip also lead us to the remote
monistry Michael Panormitis. A pity that we could not stay longer.

Oct. 3 - 11, 2000: The Capitol Of Karpathos
Counting 1500 inhabitants Pigadia is the biggest village on Karpathos. The island is mountainous and rich of forest in the North and perfect for swimming in the South. But more important: this island has a great atmosphere. I became a real Karpathos-Fan. The culinaric tip: Lunch at the "Seaside-Tavern" directly at the beach.

Oct. 5, 2000: Olympos - In The Hills Of Karpathos
In the mountains of Karpathos you find the village Karpathos. It can hardly be reached by car from the south of the island. It is significant that the women wear the traditional clothes of the island while doing there everyday work and that every family is baking its own bread. Just as the hostess of a tavern who allowed us watching her while doing her job.
Oct. 5, 2000: Through The South Of Karpathos
On Oct. 5 we took a Suzuki Samurai for going through the South of the island. The road-conditions are very good. Lefkos, Finiki and Amopi are pittoresque villages for people looking for peace. Messochori is also worth visiting it.

People in Greece
For this page I photographed people, mostly without that they knew it. By doing that I wanted to catch some atmosphere. I hope they take it as a compliment being a motive for me.
Thanks for that! Efcharisto!
