On June 2 and 3, 2007 I visited some colleagues from the
Internet-platform "Cops-Area", who organized a User-Meeting in Magdeburg,
the capitol of Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany.
Besides the extraordinary "Society-Event" we also
visited the Old-Town of Magdeburg, where especially the dome and the house
designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser were very spectacular.
On Sunday, when all participants left Magdeburg, I had
still some time for visiting the Old-Town of Leipzig, where I was
impressed by the churches St. Nikolai and St. Thomas, where you can also
find the grave of J.S. Bach.

1. The Journey & The Meeting
Friday in the evening I started with the Euro-Night-Train
from Vienna Western-Station direction to Leipzig.
Early in the morning I had to change the train and arrived on Saturday, 7 a.m.,
Magdeburg Central Station.
Here my colleague Klaus picked me up and brought me to the "Big Party".

2. Magdeburg
Due to the grey sky and the bad light for photographing I only took a few pics
of the Old-Town of Magdeburg and some of them where changed in photo-experiments
at the computer.

3. Leipzig - The Old-Town
After tidying up in Magdeburg I took the train to Leipzig where I walked around
photographing until the early evening.
Again the result was affected by grey sky.
Nevertheless the city and its architecture impressed me!

4. Leipzig - St. Nikolai
(Quelle: wikipedia)
The church of St. Nikolai is the most famous church in Leipzig besides St.
Thomas. It was a central point of the peaceful revolution of the GDR in the year
1989 ending in the re-union of Germany on October 3, 1990.
The renovation of the inner room is one of the most important works of
classicism.

Built after the year 1165 after the bestowal of
market- and city-rights.
|

The inner room in classicistic style was desinged in
the late 18th century. |

In 16th century this was one of the starting
points of reformation.
|

Here preached Justus Jonas the older and Martin Luther.
|

Until the year 1916 the tower also was the
fire-guard-tower of the town... |

...and its bell was also used as an alarming-bell
in case of fire! |

5. Leipzig - St. Thomas
St. Thomas-Church of Leipzig is known as the place where "God's Composer" Johann
Sebastian Bach worked and home of the "Thomas-Choir".

In the beginning of the 13th century the old
market-church...
|

...was modified to the monistry-church of the St.
Thomas-Monistry of the Augustinian monks.
|

The square in front of the church was "changed" at
the PC.
|

Above the ribbed vaults you find...
|

...one of the steepest roofs of Germany
(angle 63°, height 43 m)
|

The gothic "Pauliner-Altar" could be saved from the
blasted church of St. Pauli in 1963.
|

In front of the church: Statue of J.S. Bach
(1685 - 1750)
|

"God's composer" is also eternalized in one of the
church-windows.
|

The other church-windows...
|

...are also variegated and spectacular! |

Leipzig - Central Station
In the evening I walked around on the huge area of Leipzig's
Central Station which is one of the biggest termini in Europe.
A spectecular place for a railway-fanatic!
